It’s no surprise that how you think will define how well you’ll do in business… While this is being the case the majority of business owners are still struggling to make their business succeed. All this happens while their lifestyles are being compromised by long hours at work, stress and managing all the areas of business.
What’s success anyway?
Success in business is usually measured through profit, however what good is it if it’s costing you too much time? So looking deeper at business success the core of the business needs to be addressed such as having free time, providing effective solution while getting paid for this.
Most people transition into business naturally by working for someone and then starting their own venture. This typically is a self-employed venture where the business owner is right in the middle of the business and while getting paid well they still trade their time for money. A real business however is where the vision of the owner is delivered through a mission that systems and people deliver which creates scalability.
Business by design
Business by design sounds like a myth to most people. By the time most people start thinking about it, they feel that it’s too late and too hard to change. The truth is that it’s never late to change. Either you own the business you operate or it owns you, there is no third option.
Designing a business is about understanding what a business should do in order to serve the vision of the business owner. Surely your vision wasn’t to work 70 hours per week doing everything from service to sales, marketing and accounting. The vision is usually short-sighted as only focuses on making more money. The cost of this is usually time which then also jeopardises your life lifestyle and often relationships.
Instead of focusing on the money it’s important to focus on the outcome of what the business should be providing for you. Perhaps buying own home, having a better car and going on multiple holidays each year is what you really want. Now if you start to think from this angle you can figure out how much money you would approximately need for this. Also a critical component of time would also come up which you would need to enjoy all these things.
Large corporations were once someone’s vision which now for them and anyone invested in them. Your business is no different. It’s only the mindset that is setting you apart from those corporations where you aren’t allowing the business to grow by not letting to…
Letting go
Any large business is built using systems and people. This is really where the successful business owners have invested. Letting go of things that aren’t their strengths and focusing on where their real magic can be done. So the advise for any small business owner is to focus on letting go of the actual service and getting people who can follow their service recipe. Let go of doing everything yourself, things like marketing and accounting and instead focusing on sales and charging clients properly. The concept of charging properly is the most important one here as this is what is going to allow you to afford systems and hire people and let go.
